As the festive season approaches and the spate of commercial activities among the motoring public increases, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Monday (11th of December, 2023) fagged off the Year 2023 Ember Months’ Public Enlightenment and Safety Advocacy Campaign with the newly launched ‘Lastma Female Elite Corp’

In a press statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment of LASTMA Mr. Adebayo Taofiq said the safety of lives and property is paramount to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, adding that the ember months advocacy campaign is an annual event designed to engage the minds of the motoring pubic on the need to be safety-conscious and have respect for other road users.

The Ag. General Manager of the Agency Mr. Bakare Oki Olalekan stated that traffic law enforcement officers are friends of the public while the behavioural attitude of most drivers is what makes them to be regularly apprehended.

He admonished both private and commercial bus drivers to imbibe an attitudinal change while behind the steering wheel.

The LASTMA boss equally enjoined motoring public particularly commercial bus drivers not to be reckless on the road and to obey all traffic rules and regulations.

“Drivers must take good care of themselves and do away with bad habits like smoking, drunk driving and making phone calls while at the wheel and always learn to respect other road user”

Also speaking during the enlightenment campaign, the Coordinator of ‘Lastma Female Elite Corp’ Mrs. Biola Aina (An Assistant Chief Traffic Superintendent) admonished the commuting public not to allow the prevailing commercial boost which is occasioned by high volume of vehicular movement during this festive season to override public safety on the road.

She emphasized that ignorance of the law is not an excuse and that members of the public should be expecting a new face of Lastma with empathy, civility and humane approach to motorists on the road.

According to her “Our advocacy programme would covered the entire five (5) divisions of Lagos”

While expressing that the ‘Lastma Female Elite Corp’ was initiated to promote the new face of the Agency before the public, She therefore named various motor parks/markets visited by the advocacy train to include Obalende, C.M.S, Lekki, Iyana-Oworo and Apongbon.
