OVER 150 ARMED HERDSMEN ATTACK KOGI COMMUNITY, KILL 4
The community of Agojeju-odo in Bagaji-Odoh District of Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State was attacked by more than 150 suspected armed herdsmen, resulting in the tragic deaths of four individuals.
Hon. Umar Yahaya, the representative of Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, condemned the attack and highlighted the severity of the situation, describing it as one too many.
The attack, which occurred at about 3:30 pm on Tuesday, the 30th of January 2024, was carried out by Fulani herdsmen who arrived at the peaceful community and began shooting indiscriminately in broad daylight from the eastern part of the town. As a result, a sick woman in a local private clinic, Mr. Attai John Idagboyi, Mr. Daniel Shuaibu, and another man were brutally killed, bringing the total death toll to four.
Yahaya also emphasized the longstanding attacks on the Bagana community, urging the governor to provide armed security personnel to the affected area and to direct the State Emergency Agency to supply relief materials to the victims in Bagana and Agojeju-Odo.
The lawmaker’s plea for immediate action was centered on the deployment of armed security personnel to scare away the militants, as well as the provision of relief materials to support the affected community.
