Eight alleged members of a cult have been taken into custody by men from the Ekiti State Police Command at the Ekiti State University in Ado Ekiti.

Sunday Abutu, the public relations officer for the state police, stated in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday that the arrest on Tuesday came about as a result of men from the Command’s Rapid Response Squad stepping in in response to a distress call.

Abutu said in a statement on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Adeniran Akinwale, that ā€œat about 18:00 hours, the command received a distress call that some suspected members of Buccaneer Confraternity Alora Sea Lord secret cult group were conducting themselves in a manner that could cause breach of peace on the campus of EKSU.ā€

A fortnight ago, two students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, were killed by cult members outside the university premises.

The Edo State Police Command said last week that some persons suspected to have been involved in the alleged killing of the two students had been arrested and that the investigation was still ongoing on the matter.
