SECURITY: ONDO POLICE RESCUE ABDUCTED COMMUTERS
The victims of Friday’s kidnapping in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, Ondo State, have been located and rescued, according to police authorities in the state.
Around 11 p.m., the victims, who were from the south-east, were ambushed by gunmen who killed the driver and one commuter. Five more people were kidnapped, but two of them were able to escape.
The attackers left the victims in the forest, according to a statement released on Monday by Funmilayo Odunlami-Omilana, the spokesman for the Ondo State Police Command.
She mentioned that after searching the woodland, police officers from the tactical squad under the command of Olufemi Awoyele, the Area Commander of Owo, fled, leaving the victims at the nearby Oyinbo/Sanusi camp.
According to Omisanya, the patients are being treated at the police medical facility in Owo and will be released to their relatives following a debriefing.
