KATSINA GOVT SETS UP COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE HISBAH OVER ALLEGED TORTURE, MURDER
A committee has been established by the Katsina State Government to look into the authenticity of a widely shared social media video purporting to show people being tortured by state Hisbah Board employees.
On behalf of State Deputy Governor Faruq Jobe, the committee was officially opened on Tuesday at the SGS office, State Secretariat Complex, Katsina, by Secretary to the Katsina State Government Abdullahi Faskari.
He insisted that other claims of victimization and torture by board members are anticipated to be looked into by the committee.
According to Faskari, the committee’s other mandates include, but are not limited to, examining the legislation that established the Hisbah Board and identifying any gaps that might have allowed for the violation of basic human rights.
