LASG SET TO PROMOTE SPORTS IN SCHOOLS AS CAREER PATH FOR TALENTED STUDENTS
Lagos State Government will continue to invest in school sports and promote sports activities in schools to explore its advantage as a career path for talented pupils and students as done in other parts of the world. Students who excel in sports will be encouraged through incentives while in school and their sports careers will be nurtured through training and exposure to national and international competitions.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun disclosed this today when he received the Basketball Boys’ Team of Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior High School and the Girls’ Team of Topfield College who won trophies at the 24th edition of the Nestle Milo Basketball Championship.
Alli-Balogun applauded the boys team of Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior High School that came tops at the championship winning the trophy for the first time in 24 years. He also appreciated the female team of Topfield College for coming second in the female category. The Commissioner praised the coaches who ensured the teams were fit and received the best encouragement in psychology and physical support.
The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Mr. Adeoye Bashir Adebowale expressed his appreciation to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the great opportunity given to the students to participate in sports activities and support rendered by the Commissioner which served as encouragement to the students to showcase their God-given talent.
The two teams competed against over 10,000 schools across Nigeria to win the first and second positions in the boys and girls categories of the 24th Nestle Milo Basketball Championship.
