PANIC AS 7-MONTH-OLD BABY REPORTEDLY ABDUCTED IN EPE
Epe, Lagos State, was thrown into confusion last week Friday after a seven-month-old baby, Abdul Fatai Edu, was abducted under bizarre circumstances.
It was gathered that the incident unfolded when a neighbor, identified as Jimoh Barakat Tolani, allegedly requested to take the infant along with her to Ayetoro Market in Epe.
Tolani, who had seemingly bonded with the child, convinced the boy’s mother, Mistura Edu, that they would return shortly, promising to use the same motorcycle (okada) for the trip.
The 20-year-old mother, likely seeing the offer as a brief respite, agreed and handed her child over to Tolani.
However, hours passed, and there was no sign of the woman or the baby. As time stretched from one hour to four, and into the next day, Saturday, the whereabouts of both Tolani and Abdul Fatai remained unknown.
By Sunday morning, the family’s panic had only deepened, with no clues as to what might have happened. While some questioned Mistura’s decision to entrust her baby to Tolani, others noted that the alleged abductor was a trusted neighbor, and that fate can sometimes overpower human caution.
When contacted to confirm the report that she was arrested and detained by the police, the victim’s mother told our correspondent that she would call back.
This troubling incident has prompted widespread calls for intervention. Concerned individuals are urging law enforcement and community leaders to take swift action. Key figures called upon include:
Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade
Divisional Police Officer, Epe Police Station, Mr. Barnabas Okosodo
Executive Chairman, Epe Local Government, Princess Suurat Animashaun
Epe Local Government MHR, Hon. Wale Raji
Lagos State House of Assembly Representative for Epe Constituency 1, Hon. Tobun Abiodun
Traditional rulers and various community groups
The Edu family is appealing to the public for any assistance that could help locate the missing child. Anyone with information or the means to assist can reach Mistura through her mother’s phone at 08106171979.
