OGUN POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN SEXUAL ASSAULT OF VULNERABLE HOUSEWIFE

A guy named Tahiru Hamidu has been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command on suspicion of having illicit sex with a mentally ill married woman (name withheld) in the Owode village, which is part of the state’s Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.
Before being captured by the men of the Owode Egba Division on September 12, 2024, learned that the suspect had repeatedly taken advantage of the survivor’s condition to have non-consensual sex.
Additionally, the suspect was charged with threatening to kill the survivor’s brother-in-law, Shofolahan, if he did not consent to him continuing to rape his brother’s wife.
The survivor was allegedly lured to a cassava plantation by Hamidu, a suspect from Northern Nigeria, who then allegedly raped her several times before releasing her.
Odutola said, “The survivor is mentally incapacitated. The brother-in-law who reported the case claims that the suspect threatened to kill him to prevent him from stopping the crimes. The suspect is accused of repeatedly engaging in sexual acts with the survivor.
“The suspect is also accused of luring the survivor to a cassava plantation in the community, where he allegedly engaged in non-consensual sexual intercourse with her repeatedly.
“He began threatening the brother-in-law, warning him to stop preventing him from having sexual intercourse with the survivor and demanding that he hand her over to him.”
Odutola stated that even after the culprit was apprehended, the investigation into the crime was still underway.
A similar incident was reported in March 2024, when Usman Bube, a 26-year-old male, was taken into custody at the Ogatalo Fulani Camp in the Imala district of the state on charges of trying to rape the pregnant neighbor’s wife.
Knowing that the pregnant woman’s husband, Muhammad Awwalu, had left the neighborhood and left his wife alone in the apartment, the suspect is said to have broken into his neighbor’s flat, found the woman sleeping, and attempted to perform the crime.
The defendant allegedly pulled out a knife in an attempt to intimidate and subdue the woman after his repeated attempts to forcefully engage in illicit sexual activity with her failed.
Before he could succeed, he was caught by other neighbors.
