The Independent National Electoral Commission has uploaded 98.45 percent of the results from the Edo governorship election onto its Results Viewing Portal as of the time of filing this report.

Accordingly, the results uploaded on IReV indicate that 4449 out of 4519 results of polling units across the 18 Local Governments of the state where elections were held have been uploaded.

This means that only results from 70 polling units are yet to be uploaded.

According to the results uploaded so far, the battle for the governorship race has been narrowed down to the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Monday Okpebholo and his rival of the Peoples Democracy Party, PDP, Asue Ighodalo.

Akpata of the Labour Party and other candidates have been knocked out.

The election has over 2.2 million voters with permanent voters’ cards across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo, Anugbum Onuoha, reassured of the electronic transmission of the results.

As of the time of filing this report, a preliminary analysis of election results so far uploaded on the IReV indicated that the APC candidate is leading in the Edo North Senatorial District, while the PDP candidate leads in the Edo South Senatorial District.

Despite early morning rains, which delayed the arrival of materials at the polling units, the election witnessed a large turnout of voters across the state.
