LAGOS ATTORNEY-GENERAL HOSTS NEWLY APPOINTED LAGOS COMMISSIONER OF POLICE

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP. Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale, and his team were recently hosted by the Hon. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, during their courtesy visit to the Ministry of Justice at the Secretariat Alausa, Ikeja, in an effort to strengthen the cooperation between the police force and the legal system in the State.

During his speech, the Hon. Lawal Pedro, SAN, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, emphasized the need for increased cooperation in addressing security concerns in the State, especially the growing threat of land grabbing, which has been a common worry for the State Government and the people of Lagos State.

He emphasized the value of the collaboration between the legal system and the police force and the necessity of ongoing communication to meet new security threats and defend the rights of all citizens.

“The synergy between our institutions is crucial for the delivery and quick dispensation of justice in the State. This visit signifies our collective dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that every citizen enjoys their rights under the law”, said Pedro.

In order to further strengthen their capacity to defend property owners’ lives while preserving the rule of law and preserving peace and order in the State, the Commissioner further promised to work with the police to develop new policies that would close legal loopholes that criminals take advantage of.

Commissioner of Police CP. Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale thanked the Attorney-General’s office for their kind reception and steadfast support in reviewing issues that the police force brought forward.

He stated, “Our visit today is to strengthen the already existing cooperation between the police and legal officers in the State. Together, we are committed to building a safer Lagos”.

CP. Olanrewaju emphasized the police’s continuous efforts to stop illicit land activities and gave the public the assurance that they would step up their efforts to defend the rights and property of citizens.

“The problem of land grabbing is a growing concern, and it is affecting the peace and security of many communities. By working closely with the Attorney-General’s office, we will ensure that offenders are not only apprehended but also prosecuted to the full extent of the law”, he reassured.

It is anticipated that this visit would support ongoing initiatives to prevent crime, promote accountability, and guarantee effective case prosecution. It also emphasizes how crucial it is for the judicial system and the police force to continue working together in order to protect human rights and carry out justice.

During the visit, other Ministry of Justice directors were present, including DCP Lateef Ahmed, SP Yetunde Cardoso, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, and Acting Permanent Secretary/Solicitor General, Mr. Hameed Oyenuga.
