An Israeli airstrike in the northern region of Beit Lahia killed around fifty-five persons in a residential structure overnight, according to a statement released by Gaza’s civil defense organization on Tuesday.

“More than 55 people have been martyred and dozens more wounded are under the rubble of a five-storey residential building belonging to the Abu Nasr family that was hit by the Israeli occupation last night in Beit Lahia,” agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP.

The Israeli military said it was “looking into the reports”.

“We are still receiving a number of martyrs and wounded,” Safia said, adding that the hospital was struggling to treat patients due to a lack of staff and medicines.

“There is nothing left in the Kamal Adwan Hospital except first aid materials after the army arrested our medical team and workers when they invaded the hospital during the military operation in Jabalia,” Safia said.

The Israeli military claimed to be operating surrounding the hospital last week, but the Gaza health ministry claimed Israeli troops had overrun it.

In what it claims is an effort to stop Hamas militants from regrouping, the IDF has launched a massive air and ground assault in northern Gaza since October 6, focusing on the neighborhoods of Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun.

The military stated in a statement released Tuesday morning that it had killed some 40 militants in Jabalia during the course of the previous day through a number of air and ground operations.

Since the assault started, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed, according to the civil defense organization, and tens of thousands have been forced to evacuate northern Gaza.
