RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE TO N72,000 IN KADUNA

Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State, has authorised a new minimum pay of N72,000 for the state’s civil servants, which would take effect November 2024.
According to a statement made on Thursday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Malam Ibraheem Musa, the decision is intended to advance workers’ interests and is consistent with Sani’s lifelong commitment to promoting and defending worker rights.
“The decision is in line with the advancement of the interests of workers and improvement in the living conditions of the poor, vulnerable and underserved in Kaduna State,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the governor, according to the statement, plans to establish a free transit initiative for civil officials by releasing 100 CNG buses.
Sani stated that the free transit initiative, which includes the release of 100 CNG buses, is intended to alleviate workers’ suffering and increase their productivity.
The governor stated that the buses would transport civil servants to and from work, saving them money on transport, and that “a Joint Management Committee consisting of representatives of organised labour (NLC and TUC) and the State Government will be set up to manage the Free Transportation Scheme for civil servants.”
He went on to say that his administration was committed to boosting our federal servants’ wellbeing and productivity.
“Kaduna State Government will continue to fashion and implement policies and measures to bring succour to the people. We are committed to transforming the lives of the less privileged. With the sustained support of our citizens, we shall make Kaduna State a Model for Social Welfare Interventions,” the governor said.
