SANWO-OLU SEEKS MORE INVESTORS AT GLOBAL SUMMIT FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM ECOSYSTEM
Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, has urged investors to collaborate with the state government in creating a sustainable tourist ecosystem that revolves on Nigeria’s abundant natural resources and human capital.
The Governor gave a speech at the International Tourism and Investment Conference’s (ITIC) Global Tourism Investment Summit Opening Ceremony on Monday at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster, London.
The theme of the Global Tourism Investment Summit, which aims to provide fresh perspectives and insights on the future of environmentally friendly investments and the sustainability of the global tourism industry, was “The Evolving Landscape of the Hospitality Sector: Embracing Green and Sustainable Investments.”
Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, represented Governor Sanwo-Olu at the high-level meeting of tourism ministers, business executives, and developers from the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors.
As the keynote speaker at the morning discussions on “Tourism perspectives in the evolving global economic context,” Governor Sanwo-Olu discussed the advancements his administration has made in the field of tourism as well as the contribution of the whole Arts, Fashion, and Music Creative value chain to the global promotion of Lagos tourism.
However, he acknowledged that there was space for development and urged investors to work with him to create a sustainable tourist ecosystem that would capitalise on Nigeria’s abundant natural resources and people capital.
He said: “Our Government is very deliberate about the need to improve the tourism ecosystem in Lagos State and that’s why we carefully infused Entertainment and Tourism as a major pillar in our THEMES+ development agenda.
“We have made modest achievements in tourism, entertainment and arts since the start of the administration. We have trained thousands of youth in different areas of creative arts such as film making, animation, music production among others.
“The Government has given grants to film producers and other professionals in the ecosystem, making magic that speaks to the spirit of Lagos as the creative hub in Africa.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu was invited to the summit and honoured for his steadfast dedication to investing in and making Lagos State a top international travel destination, according to Ibrahim Ayoub, Group CEO & Managing Director of International Tourism Investment Corporation Ltd. and Dr. Taleb Rifai, the company’s Chairman and former Secretary-General of the UNWTO.
The future of the global tourist industry is shaped in large part by the Global tourist Investment Summit, which actively promotes international investment in sustainable tourism initiatives.
