Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his dissatisfaction over Vinícius Jr.’s omission from winning the 2024 Ballon d’Or, calling it “unfair” and commending the Globe Soccer Awards for their integrity.

Speaking at the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards, where Vinícius won the Best Men’s Player accolade, Ronaldo remarked, “Vinícius Jr. should have won the Ballon d’Or. In my opinion, it was clear. It was unfair. This is why I love the Globe Soccer Awards; they are honest.”

The ceremony honored football’s elite, with Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr. earning the Best Forward award after an exceptional season.

Fellow Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham also shone, taking home the Best Midfielder award and the Maradona Award, further solidifying his rising stature in the sport.

Neymar Jr. was honoured with the Player Career Award, recognising his exceptional contributions to football, while Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal was named Best Emerging Talent, underscoring his bright future.

Cristiano Ronaldo himself received recognition as the Top Goalscorer of All Time, further solidifying his legendary status.

Other notable winners at the event included:
Best Agent: Jorge Mendes
Best Coach: Carlo Ancelotti
Special Career Award: Florentino Pérez
Best Club: Real Madrid
Best Women’s Player: Aitana Bonmatí
Best Women’s Club: FC Barcelona Femení

Meanwhile, the Ballon d’Or was awarded to Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri for his pivotal role in winning the Premier League and leading Spain to Euro 2024 glory.

Real Madrid, however, boycotted the Ballon d’Or ceremony, accusing its organisers of disrespecting Vinícius.

Despite Rodri’s impressive achievements, including being named Player of the Tournament at Euro 2024, his victory surprised many, as Vinícius was widely considered the pre-ceremony favourite following Real Madrid’s La Liga and Champions League double.
