LAGOS GOVT TO HOST 24-HOUR FUN-FILLED END-OF-YEAR COUNTDOWN

The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans for a 24-hour, fun-filled end-of-year countdown to welcome the New Year in a grand style. The much-anticipated annual celebration, scheduled to run from December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025, promises attendees an unforgettable musical and cultural experience.
Headlining the event are globally acclaimed Afrobeat superstar Wizkid and iconic rapper Olamide, alongside other A-list artists set to thrill audiences across Lagos’ five Ibile divisions, namely: Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe.
Speaking on the celebration, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka described the countdown as a unique platform to unify residents while showcasing the cultural richness of Lagos.

Ikorodu Town Hall for the Ikorodu Division, Badagry Grammar School for the Badagry Division, Agege Stadium for the Ikeja Division, Epe Recreation Centre for the Epe Division and Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) for the Lagos Division.
Mrs Benson-Awoyinka said, “This end-of-year celebration is more than an event; it’s a tribute to the vibrant spirit of Lagos and its people. With music, dance, food, and fireworks, we are committed to delivering a truly spectacular experience for everyone.”
She assured residents that comprehensive security measures would be in place across all venues to ensure the safety of attendees.
The Commissioner further encouraged Lagosians and tourists to join the festivities, embracing the Lagos spirit as the city sets the tone for 2025. The 24-hour celebration will climax with a dazzling fireworks display at midnight, marking the transition into the New Year.
“The fiesta is a testament to Lagos State’s tradition of ending the year on a high note and welcoming the New Year with grandeur. It will feature electrifying musical performances, cultural displays, food fairs, and other activities celebrating the energy and diversity of Lagos”, she added.
