TRADE TEST 2025: LAGOS MOVES TO CERTIFY ARTISANS, TECHNICIANS

The Lagos State Examinations Board has announced that the 2025 Trade Test for artisans and technicians across the state will hold on October 18 and 21, 2025.

The exercise, conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, is aimed at assessing the competence and proficiency of artisans and technicians in various trades.

In a statement issued by the Director/Registrar of the Board, Mr. Orunsolu Adebayo, the Trade Test remains a vital tool for promoting technical excellence, improving employability, and supporting socio-economic development in Lagos State.

According to Orunsolu, the 2025 edition of the test will feature examinations in a range of vocations, including tailoring, electrical installation, carpentry and joinery, hairdressing, barbing, catering, and shoe making, among others.

He explained that the test will be held in three categories—Grades III, II, and I—to accommodate participants with different levels of skill and experience.

“The Trade Test is designed to evaluate the competence, skill, and proficiency of artisans and technicians in various trades with the aim of promoting technical excellence and professional certification,” Orunsolu said. “It remains an important instrument for enhancing productivity, employment opportunities, and the overall socio-economic development of Lagos State.”

The Director disclosed that the theory component of the test is scheduled for October 18, 2025, while the practical examination will take place on October 21, 2025.

Designated centres for the exercise include the Government Technical College, Ikotun; Government Technical College, Epe; Skill Acquisition Centre, Egbeda; and the Lagos State Examinations Board headquarters.

Orunsolu urged eligible artisans and technicians to prepare adequately and seize the opportunity to obtain formal recognition for their skills. He also reiterated the state government’s commitment to advancing vocational and technical education as a cornerstone for sustainable development and youth empowerment.
