A communal clash, on Friday, in the Miga Local Government Area Jigawa State has reportedly claimed dozens of lives and left many hospitalised.

Eyewitnesses described the chaos as sudden and overwhelming. “It was like a war zone. People were running in all directions, screaming and crying. It was a terrifying scene,” said one witness.

Falalu Garba, a resident of Gunka village, urged affected individuals to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

Similarly, another eyewitness, Malam Gunka, emphasised the importance of community leaders and stakeholders working together to peacefully resolve disputes.

The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, confirmed the clashes.

Adam stated that several fatalities had been recorded, while others were still receiving treatment in hospitals.

“We are working to restore calm and order in the affected areas,” Adam stated.

The PPRO attributed the violence to a long-standing dispute between two communities, explaining, “We have been engaging in dialogue and mediation, but unfortunately, the situation escalated into violence.”

He assured that the police are committed to apprehending those responsible and restoring peace.

“We will not tolerate any form of violence or lawlessness in our state. We must learn to live together in harmony and respect each other’s differences.

“We urge everyone to cooperate with security agencies and allow the law to take its course. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims,” Adam said.

Adam also noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the clashes, the number of casualties, and the extent of injuries while appealing for calm and collaboration from residents to prevent further escalation.
