PRIORITIZE EDUCATION FUNDING, OBASANJO TELLS FG
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure the Federal Government establishes a sustainable plan for funding education in Nigeria.
Speaking at the 70th birthday celebration of Bells University Vice Chancellor, Oludele Ojediran, held at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Obasanjo also encouraged all tiers of government to focus on empowering youths to become job creators.
“President Tinubu and the Federal Government must find a means to finance education for its sustainability. Governments at all levels must also empower the youths to become providers of job opportunities,” he said.
The former president praised LAUTECH for nurturing outstanding academics and administrators, highlighting Professors Adeyemi and Ojediran as notable examples. Both had served as Vice Chancellors of Bells University at different times.
Obasanjo stressed that he prioritized education for service rather than profit, reiterating his commitment to preserving Nigeria’s educational legacy.
Also addressing the event, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, praised Obasanjo for his contributions to the advancement of education and agriculture in the country.
The monarch also encouraged Ojediran to use his expertise in agricultural engineering to further boost the development of Ogbomoso.
Oba Olaoye also promised to make available suitable farmland for anyone interested in pursuing agricultural initiatives in Ogbomoso and its environs.
