Read Time:1 Minute, 9 Second

The Agunechemba security outfit, established by Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in collaboration with other security agencies, stormed a notorious hideout for gunmen and kidnappers at Enugu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area.

The operation, which was based on intelligence reports, resulted in a fierce gun battle. Security operatives overpowered the criminals, leaving scores feared dead, while some escaped with gunshot injuries.

Items recovered at the scene included:

Two AK-47 rifles

Eight pump-action guns

Four locally made pistols

Three packets of cartridges (101 rounds)

Four empty AK-47 magazines

Three cutlasses

One Baofeng radio

One motorcycle

Assorted charms

A member of the criminal gang was reportedly arrested during the raid.

The joint security operation included personnel from the Police, DSS, and the military.

An operative of Agunechemba, who spoke anonymously, reaffirmed the state’s determination to combat criminal activities.

“Anambra must be free again. The Governor has done much and has given us the mandate to secure the state, and that’s what we’re doing. Those criminals must bow,” the operative said.

Anambra State had become notorious for widespread violence and kidnapping, with innocent people — men, women, and children — slaughtered daily. Kidnappings had reached alarming levels, with reports of up to five abductions daily across different locations.

This latest security operation signals renewed efforts by Governor Soludo’s administration to restore peace and security in the state.
