
GUNMEN KIDNAP ABIA ELECTORAL COMMISSION CHAIRMAN IN IMO
The Chairman, Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. George Chima, has been kidnapped.
Chima was said to have been abducted on Friday from his Okigwe residence in Imo State while playing host to some guests.
According to a family source, the ABSIEC Chairman was playing host to some lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu in his Okigwe residence when the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, numbering four, stormed the house, harassed his visitors and seized him.
The police spokesperson in the state, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the development to our correspondent.
He said the police are on the trail of the kidnappers.
He said “Yes, we are aware of the kidnap of the Prof and we have commenced investigations.
“As I speak to you now, the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, personally led the team of police to Okigwe.
“The police are assuring all that we will catch the kidnappers,” Okoye said.
