OGUN OBA’S LAND OFFER TO PLACATE ASSAULT VICTIM EXPOSED

Read Time:3 Minute, 25 Second

It has emerged that the suspended Olorile of Orile-Ifo, Oba Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi, in a desperate attempt to repair his tarnished image, offered a plot of land to the 72-year-old man he assaulted, Elder Arinola Love Abraham JP.

An insider source revealed that the monarch made the offer while at the Ogun State Police Headquarters, hoping to pacify his victim and possibly defuse the case. However, Abraham firmly rejected the gesture, stating that the matter was beyond his control and now in the hands of his children.

This revelation comes as the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) intensifies its campaign for Ogunjobi’s removal and prosecution. The group, alongside other human rights advocates, has accused the embattled ruler of a longstanding pattern of violence, land grabbing, and abuse of power—allegations that have only gained further traction following the widely condemned assault.

CDHR Calls for Monarch’s Arrest and Removal

The Ogun State chapter of the CDHR has issued a strong ultimatum to the state government, calling for the monarch’s immediate removal and prosecution. The association’s chairman, Comrade Funmi Onifade, disclosed that a formal petition has been submitted to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), detailing multiple criminal allegations against Oba Ogunjobi. These include assault, abduction, land grabbing, and even alleged killings.

During a press conference, Onifade described the monarch as a threat to the peace and security of Orile-Ifo and its environs. He accused Ogunjobi of using his influence as a former police officer to intimidate and oppress residents, adding that a viral video capturing the assault on Abraham has only reinforced longstanding allegations against him.

CDHR has also called on the Ogun State Government to, within 72 hours, begin the process of permanently dethroning Ogunjobi for desecrating the traditional institution. The association emphasized that his public misconduct is unbecoming of a custodian of culture and tradition.

Government Suspends Ogunjobi, Police Arraign Him in Court

In response to public outrage, the Ogun State Government on Monday announced a six-month suspension for the embattled monarch. According to the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Communication and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the decision was reached after an investigation by the state’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council.

Akinmade stated that Ogunjobi has been stripped of all traditional paraphernalia pending further findings, adding that the government will not tolerate misconduct that brings dishonor to the revered institution of kingship.

Meanwhile, the police have formally arraigned Ogunjobi on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the monarch was granted bail after being charged on February 4, 2025, and the case has been adjourned to March 6, 2025.

Victim Speaks: “He Said He Would Kill Me and Nothing Would Happen”

Recounting his ordeal, Elder Abraham expressed deep fear for his life, stating that Ogunjobi boasted about his influence over the police and claimed he could have him killed without consequences.

“I asked him what I did, but he never wanted to listen to me; he only wanted to molest me. That is what he does. He told me he was in control of the police and that he could kill me and nothing would happen,” Abraham narrated.

He described how Ogunjobi and his men physically attacked him, slapping and kicking him while forcing him to kneel and prostrate in a public display of humiliation. According to CDHR’s petition, Ogunjobi allegedly records such assaults and later boasts about them to his associates.

The viral footage of the attack has triggered widespread condemnation, with many calling for justice and an end to the culture of impunity often associated with powerful individuals.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the fate of Ogunjobi hangs in the balance. While he scrambles to repair his tarnished image with offers of land, the growing pressure from human rights groups, the government’s intervention, and the ongoing court case suggest that his days of unchecked power may be numbered.
