
SIX DEAD, SIX RESCUED IN KANO FIRE INCIDENT
A fire incident in Kano State resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals, with six others being rescued in January 2025.
Kabiru Isah Jaafar, an official of the State Fire Service, confirmed the fatalities on Tuesday on behalf of spokesperson Saminu Yusif. Jaafar also revealed that the fire service managed to save properties worth N1,196,950,600 during the same period.
“The Fire Service, under the supervision of the Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, in January 2025, received emergency calls from our 29 fire stations across the state in the month under review,” the statement read.
The report further mentioned that the State Fire Service received a total of 56 fire-related calls, including 10 rescue calls and seven false alarms.
“On behalf of PRO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the State Fire Service, under the leadership of overseeing Director Alh. Sani Anas, in January 2025, received emergency calls from our 29 fire stations across the state. In the month under review, we received fire calls, rescue calls, and false alarms,” Jaafar stated.

He urged the public to take precautions to prevent fire incidents, especially during the harmattan season.
“I will use this opportunity to draw the attention of the general public to handle fire with care to avoid fire incidents, especially during this harmattan period.
“All motorists are urged to drive with care, as well as abide by traffic laws, especially when travelling on highways to avoid road accidents,” he added.
