JUST IN: APPEAL COURT UPHOLDS OBA OLAOYE AS SOUN OF OGBOMOSO

Read Time:36 Second

The Court of Appeal in Ibadan has upheld the selection and installation of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso, reversing a previous ruling that had annulled his appointment.

Delivering the judgment on Tuesday, Justice Yargata Nimpar, who led a three-member panel, ruled in favor of Oba Olaoye on all 10 grounds of appeal.

On October 25, 2023, Justice K. A. Adedokun of the Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso had annulled Oba Olaoye’s selection, declaring the process “irregular, null, and void” due to non-compliance with the 1958 Soun Chieftaincy Declaration.

However, the appellate court dismissed the lower court’s judgment, thereby reaffirming Oba Olaoye’s rightful position as the Soun of Ogbomoso.
