LAGOS POLICE DISCOVER BABY FACTORY IN IJEGUN, RESCUE 10 VICTIMS
A suspected baby factory operating in the state’s Ijegun area has been discovered by the Lagos State Police Command, which has arrested three suspects and rescued ten people in connection with the illicit business.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokesperson, informed reporters of the situation Monday.
He claimed that a reliable tip-off received on Saturday prompted fast police action, which led to the operation.
Officers from the Command conducted a raid on the premises and apprehended the suspected operator, 35-year-old Mariam Vincent.
Two accomplices, Orie Ruth (23) and Ujunwa Ifeanyi (18), were also taken into custody.
During the operation, the police rescued seven adult women and three children, who were believed to have been held against their will.
The adult victims were identified as Precious (24), Magdalene (25), Adaobi (23), Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), and Amaka (26), while the children were named Destiny (7), Miracle (5), and Success (2).
All the rescued individuals are currently receiving care and support, while investigations continue.
According to Hundeyin, initial questioning revealed that the suspects had kidnapped their victims from various parts of Lagos with the intention of operating an illegal child trafficking ring.
Further investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted in due course.
In a broader security update, Hundeyin reported that 39 individuals had been arrested across the state over the past two weeks for various offenses, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, child theft, vandalism, and illegal possession of firearms and drugs.
In a separate incident, officers from the Command rescued two kidnap victims in the Igbe Alagemo community of Ijede, Ikorodu, following a violent attack by armed assailants on March 26, 2025.
Hundeyin explained that the attackers stormed the neighborhood at night, fatally shot a guard dog, and abducted 40-year-old Dare from his home. The gang then proceeded to a nearby residence and forcibly took 25-year-old Rodiat.
After a distress call was received around 9 p.m. that night, the police initiated a coordinated operation with local security teams.
The victims were safely rescued three days later, at approximately 11:56 p.m. on March 29.
The victims have since been reunited with their families, and security has been increased in the area to prevent future incidents.
