CRIME: ARMED MEN KILL THREE IN BENUE

Read Time:58 Second

Three individuals were slain Wednesday night in the Mbasombo hamlet in Benue State’s Gwer East Local Government Area by suspected armed herders.

People in the village were attacked by the roving herdsmen when they broke into the area late on Wednesday morning.

This occurs less than twenty-four hours after suspected armed herders in the state’s Gwer West LG killed two persons.

Under cover of darkness, the alleged marauding herdsmen invaded the village, according to a villager who only identified himself as Abraham.

“Residents were already asleep when we heard sporadic gunshots. They opened fire indiscriminately and set many houses on fire, and the sudden attack made some people flee their homes into surrounding bushes and nearby villages,” Abraham narrated.

Three corpses were said to have been recovered while several people sustained injury.

When contacted, the Chairman of the local government, Timothy Adi, confirmed that three deaths were recorded and added that the situation is relatively calm.

He said, “I’m in a meeting. Casualty figure three, situation now relatively calm.”

Also, the spokesperson for Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.

“Incident confirmed,” Anene simply said in a text message.
