JUST IN: ‘IT’S CONSTITUTIONAL,’ RIVERS WOMEN RALLY IN SUPPORT OF EMERGENCY RULE

The political tension in Rivers State has escalated, as a coalition of women’s groups took to the streets of Port Harcourt on Monday in support of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.
Clad in white attire, the women marched from the Garrison Flyover to Isaac Boro Park, holding placards with messages such as “State of Emergency is Constitutional” and “We Don’t Want Fubara.”
The protest was led by Ifeyinwa Aguma, a former Commissioner for Social Welfare and close associate of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The demonstrators voiced their support for Ibok-Ette Ibas, who was appointed by President Tinubu to oversee the administration of the state during the emergency period. They commended his efforts and urged him to continue steering the state’s affairs.
This latest demonstration follows an earlier protest held by a different group of women who rallied in support of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Fubara, along with his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, was suspended by Tinubu for six months last month, as part of a sweeping intervention to address the ongoing political instability in the state.
The president cited troubling security reports, including recent pipeline explosions, as justification for the emergency measures, calling the action “inevitably compelling.”

In his announcement, Tinubu stated, “By this declaration, the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara; his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu; and all elected members of the House of Assembly are hereby suspended for an initial period of six months.”
While the women’s group on Monday expressed full support for the president’s move, opposition has mounted from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which has condemned the emergency declaration and taken legal action to challenge what they describe as an unconstitutional power grab.
