RECKLESS DRIVING: LASTMA TRANSFERS THREE ARTICULATED TRUCKS INVOLVED IN GRAVE HEAD-ON COLLISION TO POLICE IN APAPA

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a serious traffic accident involving three heavy-duty trucks at the Flour Mills corridor, heading towards Airways in Apapa.

Initial reports reveal that the incident was triggered by an empty flatbed truck that blatantly violated traffic rules by driving against the authorized direction (one-way), resulting in a head-on collision with two oncoming container-laden Mark trucks. Fortunately, no lives were lost, though the accident caused major traffic disruptions in the area.

Investigations also uncovered that the trucks lacked visible license plates—an alarming violation of vehicle identification and traffic laws.

LASTMA officials responded promptly, taking control of traffic and securing the scene before handing the vehicles over to the Nigeria Police Force, Area ‘B’ Command in Apapa for further investigation.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the reckless conduct of some truck drivers and issued a strong warning to all road users, particularly operators of articulated vehicles, against driving against traffic—a serious offense under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

He emphasized that any vehicle caught violating this law would not only be impounded but also subjected to full legal prosecution.

LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order on Lagos roads through firm enforcement, continuous public education, and collaboration with key stakeholders.
