ARRAIGNMENT OF INUPA VILLAGE COMMUNITY HEAD, OTHERS STALLED AT LAGOS COURT OVER DEFENDANT’S DEATH, MEDICAL EMERGENCY
The scheduled arraignment of the Community Head of Inupa Village, Ikota Resettlement, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Oloye Giwa Omotunde Jelili, and Mr. Taiwo Kosoko, in a high-profile land dispute case, was stalled on Thursday at the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja due to unforeseen circumstances involving the defendants.
During the brief proceedings, defence counsel Lukman Agboola informed the court that the third defendant, who was originally listed in the charge sheet, had been deceased for more than a decade.
Agboola further disclosed that the second defendant, Mr. Taiwo Kosoko, who was present in court for the scheduled arraignment, had developed a medical emergency and had to leave the courtroom to seek immediate medical attention.
In response, the prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Mohammed, confirmed the death of the third defendant and informed the court that an amended charge had already been filed, removing the name of the deceased. He also stated that the revised charge had been duly served on the remaining defendants.

Presiding judge, Justice Ismail Ijelu, adjourned the matter to June 26, 2025, for a possible arraignment of the surviving defendants.
The amended five-count charge, filed by the Inspector General of Police, alleges that the defendants — Oloye Giwa Omotunde Jelili, the Baale (community head) of Inupa Village, Ikota Resettlement, Eti-Osa, and Mr. Taiwo Kosoko — conspired with others, who are still at large, to forcibly take possession of land belonging to one Mr. Nwachukwu Emeka George.
The charges border on conspiracy, forcible entry, forcible possession, willful damage to property, and stealing. The alleged offences were said to have been committed between 2022 and 2023.
