‎The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has arrested 52 suspects during a late-night clean-up operation targeting criminal elements on Lagos Island.

‎The Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced this in a statement on Saturday via X.

‎Wahab explained that the enforcement operation began around 12:35 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, covering key areas such as Lekki, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel, and Ligali Ayorinde.

‎“Complaints and distressed calls suggest that some of these streets are populated at night by unscrupulous elements miscreants, street urchins, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals—denying innocent Lagosians of their hard-earned valuables and belongings,” Wahab stated.

‎He explained that during the raid, 52 suspects were apprehended, comprising 51 males and one female. He noted that sanity was restored in all the areas visited during the operation.

‎“The operation today on the Island was part of a series of enforcement and clean-up exercises slated for at least twice a week to gradually rid the area of criminal elements,” the commissioner added.

‎Wahab assured that all arrested suspects would be charged in court accordingly as part of ongoing efforts to ensure a safer Lagos.
