FG ORDERS WAEC, NECO TO IMPLEMENT FULL COMPUTER-BASED EXAMS BY 2026
The National Examinations Council (NECO) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have been directed by the Nigerian government to switch to computer-based testing (CBT) for all of their exams by 2026.
In Bwari on Monday, this was said by Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education.
According to NAN, almost 2 million applicants have signed up for the current test at more than 800 locations nationwide.
With effect from November, Alausa disclosed that the WAEC and NECO would begin using CBT to administer their objective papers.
He stated that by May or June 2026, the complete implementation of CBT for the essay and objective components would start.
”If JAMB can successfully conduct CBT exams for more than 2.2 million candidates, WAEC and NECO can do the same.
“We are going to get WAEC and NECO to also start their objective exam on CBT.
“By 2026 exams which will come up in May/June, both the objectives and the essay will be fully on CBT. That is how we can eliminate exam malpractices.”
