The kidnappers of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman for Ifon Ward 5 in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, have reportedly held back two individuals who delivered a partial ransom for his release.

Adepoyigi was abducted on Monday evening along the Benin-Ifon-Owo Expressway, with the kidnappers initially demanding ₦100 million from his family.

However, a source told newsmen on Thursday that the family managed to raise N5 million and sent two people to deliver it, but the kidnappers rejected the amount and held the couriers hostage.

“Those who took the ransom to them (bandits), as agreed during negotiations, were held by the same kidnappers.

“They have now turned around to demand a fresh N30 million before they can release the three of them,” the source said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the police were still combing the forest to rescue the victims.

The command urged anyone with information that could aid the rescue operation to come forward. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities

Similarly, the State Commander of Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said his men had launched a manhunt for the kidnappers and assured that efforts were ongoing to secure the victims safe and sound.

The state Chairman of the APC, Mr Ade Adetimehin, had condemned the dastardly act and called on the security agencies in the state to go after the bandits and ensure that the victim was released unhurt.

“This is unfortunate, and we want to appeal to our security agencies in the state to ensure the safe release of one of my members. I learned they have commenced work on it, and I want to urge them to ensure the victim is released unhurt,” Adetimehin charged.
