By Jen Nomamiukor
The Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Akure is poised to announce its ruling on the petition lodged by Agboola Ajayi, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party, challenging the outcome of the governorship election that took place on November 16, 2024.
The three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Benson Ogubu, has declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the election, having triumphed in all 18 local government areas of the state. Aiyedatiwa received a total of 366,781 votes, outpacing his competitors.
The PDP candidate, Agboola Ajayi, along with his party, has approached the tribunal to contest the election results, citing numerous irregularities and seeking their cancellation. Additionally, other political entities, including the Social Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, Allied Peoples’ Movement, and African Alliance, have also lodged petitions with the tribunal to dispute the election’s validity.
