POLICE STOP MAJOR ARMS TRAFFICKING OPERATION, ARREST TWO SUSPECTS IN NASARAWA

The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully intercepted a significant illegal arms trafficking attempt, leading to the arrest of two suspects involved in the crime.

On June 4, 2025, at approximately 3:00 AM, the state’s Commissioner of Police, SP Ramhan Nansel, announced that the Command successfully intercepted two suspected gunrunners in Lafia who were transporting a substantial quantity of high-grade firearms and ammunition destined for Ilorin, Kwara state. This operation was executed following credible intelligence, leading to the prompt deployment of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the subsequent arrest of the suspects.

The two suspects who were arrested are Lawal Sani, a 40-year-old male commercial bus driver from the Makwalla area in Funtua LGA, Katsina State, and Dahiru Abdullahi, a 75-year-old male cattle trader from Angwan Dosa, Kaduna North LGA, Kaduna State, who is known to work at the Keffi Cattle Market in Nasarawa State.

The items recovered include: one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), three AK-47 rifles, one TAB 06 rifle, 1,096 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, 20 rounds of 7.62mm NATO caliber ammunition, four empty magazines, and a grey Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AAA 926 XL.

According to authorities, the suspects admitted they were paid ₦500,000 to transport the weapons from Benue State to Kwara State, a deal that had the potential to supply several criminal organizations.

The Commissioner of Police emphasized that this operation sends a strong message to all criminals in the state.

“Nasarawa State is not a safe haven for crime. We are fully committed to breaking up illegal arms networks and ensuring the safety of innocent Nigerians.
