The Niger State Police Command has arrested two men over the kidnap and murder of a 10-year-old boy in Mariga Local Government Area, while three suspected motorcycle thieves were separately apprehended in Kontagora.

Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement on Wednesday, said the case began on July 24, 2025, when young Yaseer Mustapha of Kwana-Mariga was abducted. His guardian received a ransom demand of ₦3.5 million while working on the farm.

After negotiations, the guardian paid ₦100,000 into an account provided by the abductors, followed by another ₦10,000 a month later, but got no further communication. The case was eventually reported to the police in September and transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the SCID.

Abiodun said operatives traced and arrested 32-year-old Abdulmajid Dan-Azumi of Kwana, whose confession led to the arrest of his 18-year-old accomplice, Abdulnafiu Usman. Both suspects admitted to killing the boy and burying him in an uncompleted building. The decomposed body was recovered and released to the family for burial. They have since been charged in court.

In a separate operation, a patrol team attached to ‘B’ Division, Kontagora, intercepted two suspects along the Kontagora–Yauri Road on September 23, 2025. The men, identified as Jibril Musa (24) and Ahmed Tiamiyu, were arrested with dismantled Bajaj motorcycle parts concealed in a sack.

Their confession led to the arrest of an accomplice, Elijah Ochoba (20), who allegedly helped dismantle the stolen motorcycle. All three suspects remain in custody under investigation.
