TINTED GLASS POLICY: IGP EGBETOKUN HOSTS NBA LEADERS FOR TALKS
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has welcomed a delegation from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) headed by its President, Afam Osigwe, SAN, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. He articulated that the implementation of the Tinted Glass Permit was initiated with due consideration for the welfare of Nigerians and respect for the NBA.
“We have momentarily halted the enforcement of the Act, pending the resolution of the Motion on Notice scheduled for 16th October 2025, at the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State,” stated the Inspector-General.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, conveyed in a statement: “This visit, which focused on matters related to the execution of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 1991 by the Force, facilitated extensive discussions on issues of common interest.
“This includes the necessity for collaboration between the Police and the Bar in upholding the rule of law and fostering public trust.
“The Nigeria Police Force, while acknowledging the absence of a definitive court order preventing the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 1991, has, in light of the interests of Nigerians and in deference to the Nigerian Bar Association, temporarily suspended the enforcement of the Act until the outcome of the hearing of the Motion on Notice scheduled for 16th October 2025, at the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State.
“To further cultivate the relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Bar Association, a Police-NBA committee has been established to promote collaboration between law enforcement and the legal community.
“In the interim, all vehicle owners and drivers are encouraged to utilize this opportunity to regularize their documentation and ensure full adherence to all applicable regulations governing the use of motor vehicles with tinted or shaded glass in Nigeria.
“IGP Egbetokun reaffirms the Force’s commitment to uphold all existing laws with equity, clarity, and respect for the rights of all citizens, while maintaining effective partnerships with key stakeholders in the justice administration process. “
