The Nigeria Police Force has declared its intentions to commemorate 70 years of women‘s participation in policing, celebrating seven decades of braveryperseverance, and service since the inaugural cohort of female officers was recruited in 1955.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday, it was indicated that the festivities are set to transpire from December 3 to 4, 2025, and will convene current and former female officers along with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The announcement highlighted that this milestone “emphasizes the essential role of women in enhancing law enforcement and nurturing community trust nationwide.

It further mentioned that the IGP acknowledged the invaluable contributions of female officers to the operational efficiency and public perception of the Force, asserting that their “commitment and empathy have remained fundamental to the foundation of policing in Nigeria.

“Throughout the last seventy yearsfemale members of the Nigeria Police Force have set themselves apart in administration, investigations, tactical operations, and leadership roles, the announcement stated. They have exemplified integrity, compassion, and excellence in their service to the country and have transformed policing with empathy and intent.

Scheduled events for the anniversary encompass a national lecture, a historical exhibition, interactive panel discussions, and an outreach initiative.

The Force indicated that the celebration reinforces the Inspector General of Police’s dedication to fostering inclusivity, professionalism, and ongoing skill enhancement for women in law enforcement.

“The Nigeria Police Force extends heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, past and present, whose courage and professionalism remain a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation,” the statement added.
