Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have killed three suspected bandits and arrested an alleged logistics supplier during fighting patrols and ambush operations across parts of Kabba Bunu and Yagba West Local Government Areas of Kogi State.
The operations, conducted on January 3, 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating the movement of bandits from the Adankolo general area toward Agbadu Bunu in Kabba Bunu LGA.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, troops were immediately mobilised and positioned at a strategic crossing point where an ambush was laid.
“The bandits subsequently ran into the troops’ ambush position and were engaged, forcing them to withdraw with indications of casualties as blood stains were observed during exploitation of the area.
“In the course of the encounter, troops neutralized two bandits and recovered one AK 47 rifle, one magazine, ninety-nine rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one locally fabricated gun and eleven cartridges,” the statement said.
Abdullahi further disclosed that intelligence later revealed suspected bandit movements around Saminaka village in Yagba West LGA, prompting another operation.
Troops, working alongside local vigilantes, carried out a fighting patrol into the village and surrounding forest areas.
“On arrival, the village was observed to have been deserted, prompting troops to dismount and exploit the surrounding forest and routes leading towards the Saminaka Sabo Rijiya road.
“Troops made contact with an unconfirmed number of bandits and engaged them, leading to their withdrawal through the forest.
“During subsequent exploitation, troops traced the withdrawal route and discovered one neutralized bandit, one AK 47 rifle and seventeen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.”
The statement added that in the course of the operation, “troops also arrested a suspected bandit logistics supplier identified as Sunday Adedotun, from Odo Eri village in Yagba West LGA.”
Adedotun was apprehended on farmland in Saminaka village. He reportedly claimed to assist farmers with the transportation of produce after harvest.
Items recovered from the settlement included cartons of energy drinks and soft drinks, bottled water and harvested farm produce. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation.
According to the statement, the operations highlight the sustained pressure being applied by troops against criminal elements and their support networks in the area.
Commending the personnel, the Commander, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, lauded their professionalism, bravery and prompt response to actionable intelligence.
He reassured residents that troops would continue aggressive patrols, ambushes and intelligence-led operations to deny criminal elements freedom of movement within the area.
