2027: APC DISTANCES ITSELF FROM ABAYOMI HUNYE AS OGUN GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE

The All Progressives Congress has disowned Abayomi Hunye’s claim to the party’s 2027 Ogun State governorship ticket, describing him as an impostor and suspended party member.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, said Senator Adeola Olamilekan remains the party’s duly recognised governorship candidate in the state.
Basiru said Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.
“Hunye is not a member of the APC in good standing. He was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026. He is an impostor currently on suspension,” Basiru said.
He explained that the suspension was based on allegations of actions detrimental to the party’s image, anti-party activities and deliberate attempts to create division among party members.
According to him, the suspension was initiated at the grassroots level, ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and subsequently communicated to the party’s national headquarters.
Basiru described Hunye’s recent declaration as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election as false and unauthorised, accusing him of attempting to mislead the public.
He reaffirmed that Olamilekan emerged as the party’s governorship candidate following a validly conducted primary election, with Balogun Abiodun as his running mate.
The APC national secretary said the names and details of Olamilekan and Abiodun had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission portal, with the commission issuing acknowledgement slips recognising them as the party’s candidates for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
He warned individuals and organisations against conducting political activities or transactions with Hunye in the name of the APC, saying the party would not be responsible for any financial, legal or criminal consequences arising from such dealings.
Basiru urged APC supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while ignoring what he described as provocations aimed at disrupting peace in the state.
He also advised members and other stakeholders seeking clarification on the party’s position to contact the APC national secretariat for official information.
