2027: KENNETH OKONKWO URGES TINUBU TO RESIGN RATHER THAN FACE ELECTION

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign rather than seek re-election in the 2027 general elections.

Okonkwo made the remarks on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, while reacting to the now-overturned judgment of the Abuja Federal High Court that deregistered the ADC.

According to him, the court ruling appeared to be aimed at weakening the opposition and paving the way for Tinubu’s re-election.

“Everything about this judgment is geared towards frustrating the opposition and trying to coronate Tinubu, as the Minister of Aviation said, instead of allowing Nigerians to elect a president in 2027. By his performance, Tinubu has already lost public confidence,” he said.

The former Labour Party spokesperson criticised the administration’s handling of insecurity, citing recurring attacks in states such as Plateau, Benue and Oyo.

He argued that preventing the loss of lives should take precedence over responding after attacks have occurred.

Okonkwo also shared a personal experience involving one of his workers, whose mother was allegedly kidnapped in Kaduna State. He claimed the kidnappers broke two of the woman’s fingers after the family failed to meet a ransom demand running into hundreds of millions of naira.

He said such incidents often go unreported despite reflecting the severity of the country’s security challenges.

“The issue here is that Tinubu should not even allow the election to hold; he should resign and go in peace,” Okonkwo said.
