2027: OGUN PDP CHIEFTAIN SEEKS NON-INDIGENES’ SUPPORT FOR TINUBU

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Segun Showunmi, has appealed to non-indigene associations and hunters’ groups in the state to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
Showunmi made the appeal on Saturday during a consultation with representatives of various non-indigene associations and hunters’ groups in Abeokuta, the state capital.
He urged the groups to mobilise their members and vote for Tinubu, saying their support had remained valuable to him and his political activities in the state.
Describing the 2027 poll as an “election of liberation,” Showunmi called on voters to ensure a strong turnout and a substantial margin for Tinubu.

He also argued that Tinubu should be allowed to complete an eight-year tenure, saying this would support the rotation of political power among Nigeria’s regions.
Showunmi said, “This next election is the election that we are going to call the election of liberation. All the votes, let nobody sleep that day; all the votes must go to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The objective should go beyond merely winning the election to securing a large margin of votes for President Tinubu. The 2027 election should also demonstrate the political strength of the South; political power must continue to rotate among the regions; hence, Tinubu must complete his eight-year tenure to deliver Nigeria.”
He further appealed for political balance among Nigeria’s regions, while urging the South-East to remain patient in its quest for the presidency.
According to him, the 2027 election should be used to demonstrate that no region or ethnic group is more important than another.
Showunmi also urged educated residents and other eligible voters not to stay away from the polls, stressing the importance of participation in the presidential election.
He described non-indigenes living in Ogun State as an important component of the state’s social and economic development, adding that he had always considered them central to the pursuit of shared prosperity.
“I have come to beg you because I know that you are extremely reliable; I have come to beg you because I know you are extremely dependable; I have come to beg you because I know you are extremely trustworthy,” he said.
He expressed confidence that members of the groups would turn out on election day to support Tinubu’s bid to continue his administration’s reforms.
Responding on behalf of the groups, the Chairman of the Non-Indigene Association of Ogun State, Egba Zone, Francis Nwanze, declared their support for Tinubu.
Nwanze recalled Showunmi’s contributions to the association’s activities, including his payment of bills during some of its inauguration ceremonies.
He said the association was established about 20 years ago and has coordinators across the 20 local government areas of Ogun State, all of whom were represented at the meeting.
Nwanze assured Showunmi that the association would support Tinubu and vote for him in the 2027 presidential election.
The association comprises members of Igbo, Igede, Tiv, Calabar and Edo groups, among others.
Similarly, representatives of hunters’ associations pledged their support for Tinubu and prayed for his success in the election.
Speaking on behalf of the hunters, Yusuf Alao said the group had more than 1,000 members and assured that they were prepared to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
