2027: TINUBU WILL HARVEST MORE VOTES IN SOUTH-EAST, SAYS UMAHI

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will make major gains across the South-East in the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure significantly more votes in the region than the party did in 2023.
Umahi made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he assessed the APC’s prospects in the region and its chances of improving its previous electoral performance.
“I will not tell you whether we win the five states of the South-East or not, but the President is going to harvest a lot of votes in the South-East. It can never be the same like it was before,” Umahi said.
When asked how many of the five South-East states he believed the APC could win, the minister expressed confidence that the party could secure victory in all of them.
“My faith is telling me we’ll win the five states,” he said.
Umahi also dismissed suggestions that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), could pose a major threat to Tinubu or the APC in the 2027 election.
According to him, Obi is not the only presidential contender from the South-East, noting that several other candidates are also expected to participate in the race.
“By the way, it is not only Peter Obi that is from the South-East that is contesting. We have about three or four other presidential candidates who are contesting,” Umahi said.
He added that the Labour Party and other political platforms also have candidates, including a female presidential aspirant.
“So, Peter Obi is not a threat as far as I am concerned,” the minister stated.
Umahi’s comments come as political parties and presidential hopefuls intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the South-East expected to remain an important battleground.
