A 30-year-old decorator identified as Esohe Aigbe has been reportedly hacked to death by suspected assailants in Benin City, Edo State.

The incident was said to have occurred on May 27 at Ojo Street in the Ogida area of Benin City.

According to sources, the deceased had gone to the area to assist a friend in decorating a venue for a burial ceremony when she was attacked.

A source familiar with the incident disclosed that Aigbe had completed the decoration work and was still at the venue when the attackers allegedly descended on her with a machete.

“The deceased was attacked with a machete at the venue of the burial where she went to do a decorating job. After the attack, the perpetrators left hurriedly,” the source said.

The source further stated that some residents and sympathisers rushed to the scene and took the victim to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for treatment.

However, she reportedly died from the severity of the machete injuries sustained during the attack.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, said the police were already investigating the murder case.

“I’m aware of a murder case in the area. We already have one suspect in our custody, and investigation is still ongoing,” she stated.

The police have yet to disclose the identity of the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the attack as investigations continue.
