At Tombolo Junction, close to Yewa North Local Government Area, the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, intercepted cars transporting significant quantities of live ammunition hidden in bags of imported rice.

While displaying the confiscated goods, the Command’s Comptroller of Customs, Bamidele Makinde, pledged that his team would continue to remain alert to their responsibilities and stop the unlawful movement of weapons and other contraband across borders.

A few days after Acting Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, visited the Ogun 1 Area Command at Idiroko, where he cautioned officers against compromise at borders and urged them to ensure prevention of illegal movement of firearms across the borders, officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, have intercepted significant numbers of live cartridges hidden in bags of foreign rice left in a bush path at Tombolo Junction, close to the border with Nigeria.

The Comptroller stated that the driver of the vehicle that loaded the contraband and other drivers were suspected to have been informed about the movement of customs operatives, and they decided to abandon their vehicles and escape through the bush path in order to evade arrest. The Comptroller briefed journalists about the accomplishments of the command.

According to him, the duty-paid value of the products that were seized exceeds seventeen million Naira.

The Comptroller, who praised the Acting Comptroller General of Customs for his encouragement and support, made a commitment that his officers would do everything possible to defend the nation’s borders from the flow of contraband.
