In light of the loss of Honorable Ekene Adams, a congressman from Kaduna State’s Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the National Assembly and the Kaduna State government.

In a statement released on Tuesday under the signature of Chief Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Advisor to the President (Media & Publicity), the president also expressed his sympathies to the late lawmaker’s friends and family, advising them to find comfort in God and the deceased’s legacy.

It said, “President Tinubu prays for the repose of the soul of the departed lawmaker and strength to his family.”

The Labour Party lawmaker was 39 at the time of his death.

“The House of Representatives is saddened to announce the passing of a dear member of the 10th Assembly, Rep. Ekene Abubakar Adams (LP, Kaduna), who died early Tuesday, at the age of 39,” the spokesman of the House Akin Rotimi Jr said in a statement on Tuesday while announcing his death.

A first-time member of the House, Ekene Adams chaired the House of Representatives Committee on Sports.

The Reps spokesman described the deceased lawmaker as “a kind and gentle humanitarian, loved by all who knew him”.

“His dedication to the development of grassroots sports in Nigeria was unwavering, and his contributions to the House will be deeply missed,” Rotimi Jr said, sending condolences to the family, friends, and constituents of our “dear colleague, as well as the good people and Government of Kaduna State”.

The LP lawmaker is the third member of the Reps to die this year. His death came about a week after another member of the House of Representatives Olaide Akinremi died.

Known as Jagaban, Akinremi represented the Ibadan North Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmaker died after a brief illness. He was 51.

“Rep. Akinremi was as much a grassroots politician as he was an astute statesman who leveraged his goodwill and network of relationships to attract positive impact to the people of his constituency,” the House spokesman said about him.

“He built friendships by being intentional about reaching out and sending goodwill messages to all colleagues on special occasions, fostering camaraderie and unity within the House.”

About two months before Akinremi’s death, another member of the House of Representatives Isa Dogonyaro passed away. He was representing the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State and was a member of the APC.

“Hon. Isa Dogonyaro was a detribalised patriot who was very jovial as much as he was an intellectual,” the House of Reps said in describing the late lawmaker.

“He built strong bonds of friendship with Honourable Members from all parts of the country. He is survived by his wives and children.”
