“I WAS EXPELLED FROM SCHOOL BECAUSE OF FELA” – ANDY BOYO
Acclaimed filmmaker and patron of the Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN, Andy Boyo is gearing up to bring the legendary life of Afrobeats icon Fela Aníkúlápó Kútì to the big screen in a highly anticipated biopic.
After three years of preparation, Boyo has secured the musical rights and is poised to start shooting in Nigeria, the UK, and the US in 2025.
According to insiders, the big-budget film will feature a large cast, including 27 actresses playing Fela’s wives. Boyo, known for his blockbuster movies like “Untamed” and “Spirit of Assassins,” will write, produce, and direct the biopic.
For Boyo, this project is a labor of love. “Fela has always been my passion, I was expelled from Glorious College, Ibadan for sneaking out to watch him perform at the University of Ibadan’s ‘Havana Night.’ Fela was my mentor; I admired his personality and music. When I returned to the school, I got expelled from school,” Andy Boyo said.
The biopic will chronicle Fela’s life, struggles and triumphs as the king of Afrobeats. With Boyo’s expertise and dedication, this film promises to be a groundbreaking cinematic experience that will shake the foundations of African cinema.
