REMOVING FUEL SUBSIDY WAS TOUGH FOR ME, NIGERIANS MUST ENDURE IT – TINUBU
President Bola Tinubu acknowledged that removing the fuel subsidy was a difficult decision but insisted that Nigerians must endure the challenge.
Speaking on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), led by Lucius Ugorji, Tinubu recognized the hardships caused by ongoing economic reforms.
He emphasized that the measures were essential for building a stronger nation and ensuring a better future for future generations.
According to him: “Yes, removing the fuel subsidy was hard, tough for me, but it’s a hard choice that Nigeria must face. We are not going to bankrupt our country.
“We were spending the investment of the future of our children yet unborn; we were spending their rights. Poverty has no religious basis. It affects all, and we must fight it together.”
Tinubu emphasized that poverty affects all Nigerians, regardless of religion or ethnicity, urging both citizens and leaders to work together to tackle the issue.
On May 29, 2023, during his inauguration in Abuja, he declared the removal of the fuel subsidy.
