LIBYAN POLICE APPREHEND THREE NIGERIANS OVER DRUG TRAFFICKING
Authorities in southern Libya have detained three Nigerian nationals on suspicion of drug trafficking, as reported on Sunday by Migrant Rescue Watch (MRW), an organization that monitors migrant-related incidents throughout North Africa.
The arrests were carried out by the Samnu Police Department in the town of Samnu, situated in the Murzuq district—an area known for smuggling and trafficking due to its proximity to Libya’s unsecured southern borders.
MRW stated that the suspects were allegedly caught with a quantity of hashish intended for distribution. However, the exact amount of the drugs recovered was not revealed, and the identities of the individuals remain undisclosed.
“Samnu Police Dept. arrested 3 migrants of Nigerian nationality on charges of drug trafficking.
“The trio were found in possession of a quantity of hashish earmarked for sale. The case was referred to public prosecution,” the MRW said in a social media post confirming the arrests.
The arrests are part of ongoing heightened security efforts in the region aimed at tackling the growing cases of drug trafficking and unlawful cross-border activities involving both Libyan citizens and foreign nationals.
