COURT REJECTS LAWSUIT AGAINST OYO MONARCH
An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the nomination and installation of Oba Francis Olushola Alao as the Olugbon of Orile Igbon.
Justice K.A. Adedokun, who delivered the ruling on Monday, struck out the case on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction.
The suit was filed by four members of the Akinbola family, who opposed Oba Alao’s selection, appointment, and approval as the traditional ruler.
Justice Adedokun ruled that the claimants lacked the legal standing (locus standi) to bring the case forward.
He also noted that the Surulere Local Government, the body authorized to oversee the selection and approval of traditional rulers, was not included in the suit—rendering it fundamentally flawed.
