The Permanent Secretary of Health, District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, has embarked on a comprehensive performance assessment of all 66 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) within the district to ensure alignment with Lagos State’s goal of accessible and quality healthcare for all.

Speaking on the rationale behind the quarterly monitoring exercise, Dr. Adeleke emphasised that the exercise was far more than a routine inspection. “It was a deliberate, hands-on commitment to see, hear, and understand the current state of the 66 health facilities personally. “

The quarterly assessment tour approved by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu covered all Primary Healthcare Centres located across the Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe areas of the state, including riverine and hard-to-reach areas.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the exercise provided an opportunity to evaluate infrastructure, interact directly with frontline healthcare workers, and engage with community members to gain insights into their experiences, expectations, and needs.

She noted that the findings from the tour will inform data-driven interventions and increase the capacity of each facility to provide responsive, compassionate, and timely healthcare services.

“This is not about ticking boxes,” Dr. Adeleke affirmed. “It’s about identifying real-time challenges, recognising success stories, and enhancing service delivery across the board.”

She reiterated that in Health District III, quality healthcare is not a privilege but a standard one that the Lagos State Government is working tirelessly to uphold. The monitoring tour, she said, underscores the broader state-wide commitment to building a people-centred and resilient health system.

Dr. Adeleke further emphasised that the initiative would foster greater accountability, inspire practical leadership, and help close critical gaps in primary healthcare, while amplifying community voices in the formulation and implementation of public health strategies.
