Three suspected Klansman Confraternity members have been arrested by men from the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly shooting to death a member of the Eiye Confraternity, Akinola Ayegbusi, at a restaurant in the state’s Alapere area.

Normal activities were taking place when the suspects, who were said to be on a revenge mission, followed Ayegbusi to the front of the restaurant.

The suspects, who were armed with guns and cutlasses, allegedly shot Ayegbusi after spotting him. In an attempt to flee, the victim entered the restaurant.

Following that, the suspects, numbering six, were seen in a video clip captured by the restaurant’s Closed-Circuit Television, shooting and hacking Ayegbusi until he died.

The attack terrified the security guard, workers, and customers who had come to patronize the restaurant, as seen in the video clip running helter-skelter to escape the crime scene.

After committing the crime, the suspects left the restaurant’s premises.

According to a source, residents in the area alerted police after the suspects fled the crime scene.

“Police officers from the Alapere Division rushed to the restaurant.” “They evacuated the body and began an investigation,” said the source.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, identified three of the suspects as Jamiu Rasheed, Emmanuel Samson, and Sheriff Module.

He stated that efforts were being made to apprehend other fleeing members of the crime, and that the suspects would be arraigned at the conclusion of the investigation.

“Operators of the Lagos State Police Command arrested a suspected cultist, Jamiu Rasheed, 22, who was captured on CCTV on July 7, 2022, hacking and shooting to death one Akinola Ayegbusi, a rival cult member at a restaurant in the Alapere area of Lagos State,” Hundeyin said.

“Investigations revealed that Jamiu has been a member of the Klansman Confraternity since 2017 and was involved in the murder of two other rival cultists.” The investigation also led to the arrest of the group’s armourer, Sheriff Module, 26, who was found with two locally-made pistols, and one other cultist, Emmanuel Samson.

“A sheriff who was also involved in the killing admitted that it was done to avenge the death of their leader, who was killed by the Eiye Confraternity on November 23, 2021.” Efforts to apprehend other fleeing cultists are ongoing. At the conclusion of the investigations, suspects will be arraigned.”

According to Hundeyin, the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has urged parents and guardians, as well as traditional, religious, and political leaders, to encourage their children and wards, as well as the teeming youth population, to avoid cultism and other social vices.

Cult-related attacks and killings had been occurring in the Alapere region of the state for some time.

Rampaging cultists allegedly killed a father of three, identified only as Oluwole; a man identified only as Labalaba; and an unidentified tricycle operator in Alapare’s Agboyi area.

Landlords, residents, and business owners in the area had been pleading with the Lagos State Police Command to send officers to the area in order to restore normalcy.
